Christmas Market Glasgow

The Christmas Market this year has moved from its usual location in St Enoch's Square to Argyle Street due to the refurbishment of St Enoch's Underground Station.

After working on Saturday, I took the train from Mount Florida to Glasgow Central and stopped off to have a look round the market.

Below are some photographs of some of the stalls. Being the last Saturday before Christmas, many of the stalls were quite crowded and it was difficult to get near enough to photograph them.

The main things for sale included food and drink, jewellery and hand-made goods.

German Sausages
The German sausage stall was very popular and had a good variety of sausages on offer, similar to the ones found in the discount supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi.

French Cakes
The French cakes looked nice but as I am not a big cake eater I was not tempted.

Italian Bakery
The Italian bakery also looked very nice but again I was not tempted.

Welsh Cheese
There were some tempting varieties of Snowdonia cheese for sale so I bought some for Christmas.

Carvings
The African carvings looked very nice and obviously were created by some talented craftsmen and women. The detail on them was excellent.

Carvings
Russian Dolls
The Russian dolls were lovely.

Native American Indian Goods
The Native American Indian goods were very interesting. I am not familiar with Native American Indian culture so must look into this more.

The market is on until December 23rd.

St Andrew's Day in Glasgow

Yesterday was St Andrew's Day so I met up with friends in Glasgow. The city centre was very busy as the Christmas market, Christmas lights and the ice ring in George Square were all up and running.

Glasgow has some wonderful shops and is generally regarded as the UK's second best shopping area after London. As a result the shops are always very busy, which also added to the crowds of people in the city.

Below are some photographs taken yesterday:

The Williamwood Pipe Band entertained everyone in the afternoon in George Square. Williamwood is an area of Glasgow.

It was a very enjoyable afternoon in Glasgow. The weather was very mild for the time of year and it sun was shining. What more could anyone ask for?
